Dental CrownDental Crown

Crowns are synthetic, permanent coverings that are placed on top of a tooth that is cracked, damaged, or decayed. Crowns restore a tooth’s appearance and function after restorative procedures like implants or root canals. Although crowns are typically made of a porcelain-metal alloy to provide the most natural appearance, they can also be made out of gold, acrylic resin, or a mixture of various materials. The treatment plan involves:

  1. Numbing the tooth
  2. Reducing the size of the tooth to remove decay and accommodate a crown
  3. Making an impression to create a custom-made crown
  4. Applying a temporary crown made of acrylic resin until the permanent crown has been made
  5. Applying the permanent crown and cementing it into place

The entire process of receiving a crown takes about three visits over a 2-3 week period.

With proper dental hygiene and regular checkups, your crowns can last a lifetime.

Dental BridgeDental Bridges

Bridges are used to replace a section of missing teeth. Bridges are used to:

  • Prevent teeth from shifting which could lead to bite problems
  • Keep the natural shape of your face and jaw
  • Maintain a healthy, natural looking smile

There are many types of bridges, including conventional bridges, cantilever bridges, and resin-bonded bridges. Like crowns, bridges can be made of a variety of materials such as porcelain, gold, or other metals, or a combination of porcelain and a metal alloy. Because there are many types of bridges and many material options, have your dentist recommend the best type of bridge for you.

Dentures are removable appliances used to replace missing teeth in order to improve your appearance and smile. Dentures prevent facial muscles from sagging and allow you to eat and speak comfortably.

There are several types of dentures:

Full Denture: A full conventional denture is made after all of the remaining teeth have been removed and the gum tissue has healed. This process takes about two to four months after the teeth have been removed.

Partial Denture: Partial dentures are used when at least a few teeth remain in the upper and lower jaws. A partial denture is removable and has attachments to a metal framework that clasps to your natural teeth.

Tooth Colored Bonded FillingsTooth Colored Bonded Fillings

Tooth colored bonded fillings are used to treat cavities, repair broken or cracked teeth, or to restore teeth that have been worn down. Fillings help prevent further decay by closing off the space where bacteria can enter. The procedure involves numbing the affected area, removing decay from the affected teeth, filling the teeth, then shaping and polishing them to perfection. Common filling materials include gold, composite resin, porcelain, or an amalgam. Dr. McCloud can help you decide which type of filling is right for you.
